About the Artist:
The artist (born Jennifer Turner) grew up in cold, cold Michigan with no siblings or playmates. Firmly believing in the existence of a parallel universe called Narnia, she spent a good portion of her childhood trying to find it. At age 18, she gave up, moved to Western Washington, and attended The Evergreen State College instead. She has worked in a variety of mediums over the years, but began to focus on mosaic in 2000. A dedicated recycler, she uses mostly salvaged stained glass and tile in mosaic items sold individually. (Most commissions require some new materials.) She also collects reusable fabrics, discarded magazines, and other castaways for a variety of projects. In 2001 she married Mike Kuhns, and in 2003 she became mother to their daughter, Anouk. She now lives about 30 miles West of Olympia, WA on 5 lovely acres with 3 dogs, a cat, chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats and a Tarzan Fairy Princess. NEW: I blog, therefore I am! I have been a closet blogger for a few years, and I am ready to make it public. Here is a link to my blog: http://cosmicbluemonkey.blogspot.com/ I write mainly about efforts to live simply and sustainably, including the experience of raising our own produce and meat, and trying to reduce waste. I also write about my work. If this sounds at all interesting, check it out. Cosmic Blue Monkey Designs supports several causes through charitable giving: KUOW and NPR, The Olympia Hands On Children's Museum, GRUB, The Evergreen State College art gallery and scholarship funds, the World Wildlife Fund, and I take my extra fresh garden produce to the local food bank. Email me. Also, I have an online shop at http://www.BlueMonkey.Etsy.com where I post small items, seconds and experiments. |
