This is my most recent (Nov. 2008) mosaic installation. This green-built home has naturalistic elements throughout, with vaulted ceilings and skylights, tree wells (yes, trees planted inside the house), natural wood trim, stained cement floors, copper and steel lighting, and a lot of stone. The homeowner wished to create the feel of a large cliff within the house, so she had this 16' curved wall built just inside the front entrance.

I worked as a team with the homeowner and an expert tile-setter. They cut and set the 12"x12" tiles while I worked on the tree.

The different-sized pieces create a rich texture, and a contrast between the geometry of the large tiles and the organic tree shape.

I have hand-carved relief leaves into the slate tiles surrounding the upper branches.

The result is a very natural design element that is an elegant accent to the home.
